Data and safety
You should know exactly what happens when your child talks to a plush friend.
Puko is a plush friend that talks with children. Parents should be able to see how it works. It is all here, including what is not perfect.
Does Puko listen all the time?
No. A conversation only starts when your child presses. In between, Puko is not listening.
What happens to the voice?
When your child speaks, one service turns speech into text, a language model writes the answer, and a voice service reads it aloud. All three run in the EU, and we use no experimental models of our own. The audio is deleted right away, and no audio is stored by Puko or in the app.
How long do you keep conversations?
The text is kept for 90 days by default. You can choose 0-365 days in the app, and you can delete all conversations with one tap. What Puko remembers about your child, like the name of the cat, is kept until you delete it. Everything is stored in the EU on servers in Frankfurt, Germany.
Are conversations used to train AI?
No. Conversations are only used to answer your child and show you the history. None of our suppliers may train models on them, and that is in our agreements. They are not used for advertising either.
What can you see as a parent?
You choose in the app:
- Topics: what they talked about. We recommend this, because children need something of their own too.
- Excerpts: small pieces of the conversation.
- Full conversations: everything that was said.
What can you control?
- Quiet hours when Puko does not answer.
- How long Puko may talk each day.
- What Puko does with big topics like death, the body, war and faith: answer briefly, point to an adult or tell you.
- What Puko remembers. You can edit and delete single things or everything.
- Download everything we have stored.
Puko's rules
- Puko never asks your child to stay and keep talking.
- Puko does not sell anything to your child.
- Puko never ignores that a child is having a hard time.
- Puko says honestly that it is an AI and not a person.
- Puko uses no rewards designed to make children come back.
- Puko says when something is better to talk about with an adult.
The children's app
In the children's app, your child can say something and the friend repeats it in a funny voice. The audio stays on the device and is not stored. Screen time ends by itself after the time you have chosen.
AI can make mistakes
Puko is built to be safe, but AI is not perfect. It can answer wrongly or misunderstand. Puko is a friend to talk to and never a replacement for adults. Keep an eye on how your child uses it, and talk about it together.
Security
Puko is built on Tuya's platform, and conversation data is encrypted. Read our safety standards. If a security breach affects you, we will tell you.
Deleting
You can delete everything Puko remembers in the app. If you stop using Puko, we automatically delete the account, conversations and memory after 30 days, and you get a confirmation by email. You can also delete everything right away.
